Tom Keyes Kicks Off State Senate Campaign
Tom Keyes will officially announce that he is running for State Senate in the Plymouth Barnstable District on Thursday. The Republican candidate plans to kick off his campaign with a celebration with his supporters, friends and family at the Plymouth Country Club, Plymouth, on April 8th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. The public is welcome to attend and may contact Agatha at abodwell@comcast.net or visit the campaign website at www.votekeyes.com for more information.
The Plymouth and Barnstable district is comprised of Plymouth, Plympton, Pembroke, Kingston, Sandwich, Falmouth, Bourne and precincts 10, 11 and 12 in Barnstable. The district is currently represented by Senate President Therese Murray. Keyes, 43, of East Sandwich, is in his second term on the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates. A two term Sandwich Selectman, he has also served on numerous boards and committees including:
• Water Quality Review Committee
• Sandwich Economic Development Committee as liaison of the Board of Selectmen
• Cemetery Commission
• Assembly of Delegates Standing Committee on Economic Affairs
• The 21st Century Taskforce to review the Cape Cod Commission and draft operational changes to the County Commissioners
• President of the Cape Cod Selectmen and Councilors’ Association and Board of Directors, and
• Member of the Massachusetts Municipal Association’s Selectmen and Councilors’ Association of Massachusetts.
Keyes, who cites the economy and corruption as two major issues that have factored in his decision to run issued the following statement, “The people I have spoken with are disgusted with not only the corruption and illegal behavior of legislators like Wilkerson, Galluccio, Marzilli, DiMasi and others, they are tired of their lack of results. We have people on Beacon Hill resting on their laurels while this area has been devastated by job loss, state aid cuts and tax increases. I will eliminate the patronage jobs of politicians and their friends on Beacon Hill and put people in this district back to work in the private sector with good, lasting jobs. We need to cut wasteful state spending and we need to reduce the taxes that burden small businesses and working families. My twelve years of public service studying local and regional economics along with my private practice restructuring business operations to be more effective and efficient shows that I can get our economic policies turned around and get our state back on track to recovery. As an Ethics and Compliance Officer where I create a code of ethical conduct, train, audit and take corrective action to change the culture of corruption within an organization, I, again, find that I am uniquely qualified to shine a light on the dark halls of Beacon Hill and begin restoring faith to the public that “their” work is being done appropriately and honorably. It is time to restore people’s faith in government.”
Keyes founded his private practice, Keyes Quality Systems in 1998, providing consulting and contract services in management, ethics and compliance. He and his wife, Melissa have two daughters, Madelynn, four, and Julia, six months.
